Platform Neutral
Servoy gives you the ability to run on Windows, Mac, Linux, Unix and even mainframes all from the same code base. Even though Windows is one of the key players in the world of operating systems but Mac and Linux are growing rapidly in popularity. One out of every 5 new PC's purchased in the USA is a Mac: if your software runs only on Windows you are limiting your potential market share. In addition to the native client being platform neutral, he Servoy Web Client is also browser neutral and will run on all popular web-browsers and all operating systems.
Database Agnostic
Here's another case where Servoy is not picky. Servoy will connect to virtually ANY SQL database. In fact, it will connect to multiple back ends at one time. It's database agnostic. Whether you want to connect to Oracle, to Microsoft SQL Server to IBM DB/2, to Sybase to MySQL or to Postgresql, Servoy supports them all. And what's even better: you can also easily switch between vendors without any rewrites. For example, if you build your product on Sybase (on a Mac) but your customer would rather deploy it on Oracle (on Red Hat Linux) you can do so without any changes to your application.
Smart and Web Client
Servoy offers a native client and a web client from a single code base. You develop once then at deployment time you decide what client technology fits best. Both technologies have their specific benefits and by giving you choice we increase your flexibility. The Servoy Smart Client will run on Windows, Linux and Mac and offers full hardware, local application and file system access: functionality that cannot be provided in browser based applications. Servoy Smart Client can also be used over the Internet without the need of additional software.
On-Premises AND SaaS with one code base
With Servoy it is easy to build and deliver SaaS enabled applications. All the technical aspects to be able to develop and deliver this are built into the platform. Servoy supports all SaaS models out of the box: Multi-tenant, Multi-database and Multi-instance. Servoy also allows you to use the same SaaS application and install it on premises at your customer's site. The best part of it is - it's not an either/or proposition. You have the ability to switch between the two models. This gives ISV's the ability to seamlessly add a SaaS offering to their current offerings without the need of maintaining two different code bases.
Extendable
Servoy already has a very broad feature set available out of the box but there will always be situations where you need specific functionality that is not yet available in Servoy.The good news is that Servoy has been designed in such a way that extending its functionality is very easy. Servoy offers extensive API's allowing you to modify the Developer, Smart Client, Web Client and/or Application Server. You can extend the platform using your existing Java .jar files, by using JavaBeans or Applets, or by writing a Java-based plug-in. This gives you maximum flexibility when you need it.
Flexible licensing models
